Our New Home Gym And More

Despite all my years I still feel like a child inside. I have a difficult time peering into the mirror and recognizing a fully realized mature man. You might have considered the birth of my 2nd child might have changed it, yet I still appear to be in denial of the aging process.

And regarding aging — or instead fighting it off — my dear wife and I recently moved into a new house and this home possesses enough room in the basement for the exercise room my dear wfe had always sought. But I’m seeing dollar signs when I consider the many diverse items required, from the required but oft-neglected weight-lifting benches and exercise mats to selecting the best of the many stationary bikes. Stationary bikes can be tricky now a days. Do you go recumbent or upright bicycle? Should you choose an old-school analog or electronic?

And then my dear wife seems determined to get an elliptical trainer as well. You understood that right. A stationary bicycle and an elliptical machine — not one or the other. My estimate is that the extra exercise equipment goes with the cream for stretch marks she started using after she bore our youngest daughter. Wow I’ll get it for that joke.

I have to be careful with our budget because our new home is more of a fixer-upper. We desired it this way, but we still have to carefully budget everything, down to the knobs for cabinets (I’m not kidding). My wife has a pretty ambitious kitchen remodeling design plotted, but I have to remind her the bathroom sink she wishes put in will set us back a fair amount, as well.

Thankfully, she and I both like the rustic, organic style, so we are furnishing our new home with furniture which is unfinished. Yes, it still requires a little polishing off, but we can keep the costs down and produce higher quality furniture than we might buy anywhere anyways.

I recently came across a great with some nice, raw knotting and a console table in matching cherry wood. For our outdoor patio we are exploring an outdoor fireplace and we will furnish with a little budget wicker furnitures initially.

Furnishing a new house may seem so adult, but I cannot help but sense I am just playing house. The new furniture and exercise equipment merely feel as a new era of playthings.
